FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) - Rex Ryan had higher expectations for the New York Jets' wildcat-style offense with Tim Tebow, and says things haven't "panned out" the way he or the backup quarterback anticipated.

Ryan would not go into detail Wednesday about why he chose Greg McElroy over Tebow to replace the struggling Mark Sanchez as the starting quarterback. He says it was his decision to go with the third-stringer, and didn't consult with any players before making the call Tuesday - other than to tell Sanchez after the Jets' 14-10 loss to Tennessee on Monday night that he was out as the starter.

Tebow has had a limited role in the offense after he was expected to provide a major boost. Ryan says Tebow has been hampered since breaking two ribs last month.
