JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police are searching for the man who got out of a car on Jacksonville's Eastside, took out a rifle, and started shooting. Two people are in critical condition.
"The gunshots were loud. It was like boom, boom," says NaNa Johnson.
Johnson was inside her home on 24th Street when she was shaken by gunshots Wednesday afternoon.
"I was gonna peep out my window, but I said no they might see me and shoot me," said Johnson.
Police say the shooting started on 24th Street when the suspect got out of a car and opened fire on a black Altima.
"The victims were trying to get away from the individual who was shooting at them," says Lt. Michael Paul.
Paul said the gunman kept shooting, but the victims managed to make it around the corner to Phoenix Avenue. That's where the shooting stopped.
The man and woman inside the car were both shot multiple times.
"No name. Just a black male in dark clothing is all we have," added Paul.
Police say the suspect was wearing dark clothing and may have gotten away in a tan or silver four-door car. Detectives spent Wednesday night talking with the victims trying to get a better description of the gunman. Both victims are listed in critical condition at UF & Shands of Jacksonville.
If you have any information about the gunman, call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS. You could get a cash reward.
