NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- The flag hangs at half-staff at West Nassau High School as students and teachers mourn the loss of 15-year-old Kyle Warren.
"You just don't think that somebody you know that's going to happen to them," says classmate Kori Long.
"Everybody keeps talking about his smile. He was always smiling. He was never frowning," classmate Alex Wate says.
The 15-year-old died Friday afternoon when the truck he was riding in, driven by 17-year-old Dustin Hunt, overcorrected and flipped multiple times along County Road 119. Warren was airlifted to UF&Shands Jacksonville where he died. His friend, Hunt, survived and is recovering at Shands.
Those who went to school with Kyle shared stories in class about the freshman. "Ms. Lulow our 4th period teacher was telling us this story about how on the first week of school he decided he was going to do better. And she told us we should have a Kyle Warren project. Where we try to bring up all of our grades in class," says Long.
And that was the kind of teen neighbors also described him as. "He was just a good boy. He be never caused any trouble," says neighbor William Slay.
And now, just four days after the crash, the community of Bryceville is rallying together. Praying for one teen's recovery as they grieve another young life taken too soon. "It's heart breaking. It really is. Everybody was crying yesterday. And everybody's still crying. We will always remember Kyle for who he was and we will always miss and love him," says Wate.
Kyle Warren's funeral is at 7 tonight at the First Baptist Church in Baldwin.
