CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- A local tow truck driver has been killed after he was crushed by a pickup truck he was towing. Napoleon Ballard III, who is from Keystone Heights, was killed Monday night.
The accident happened while Ballard was unloading a truck from a flat bed tow truck. Police say he reached into the driver's side door to try to keep the vehicle from rolling down and hitting a shed. That's when he was knocked to the ground and trapped under a tire. Neighbors tried to lift the truck to save Ballard, but he died at the scene.
Ballard was a driver for the RJR Towing Company of Jacksonville. The accident is under investigation.
