JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Many Jacksonville voters are disappointed with the fact there's going to be a Democrat in the Oval Office for the next four years.
Voter Kelly Beckstead said, "I was a little disappointed. I was hoping for a new start, I guess."
Voter Kevin Martin agreed. "It's a little unfortunate. Trying to smile. Got another four years."
But a second loss by a Republican candidate has some asking the question: Is it time for the GOP to change it's image?
"I can see the argument there," said Beckstead.
Critics on both sides of the aisle have come out saying Republicans didn't lose the race by touting smaller government and conservative values. Critics say they lost the race by becoming a party that lacks diversity -- a party of rich, white men.
Local democrats won't disagree. Duval Democratic Chairman Travis Bridges said, "The Democratic Party is a party of diversity, and really truly, it's the face of America."
But some local voters say America needs a conservative core. And they look to the Republican Party to provide that. All the while admitting, a modern makeover wouldn't hurt.
"I could see the argument for maybe tweaking it a bit," said Beckstead. "But I hope they don't get too far off from their conservative values."
