ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Gov. Rick Scott is urging all Florida school districts to take a closer look at their security policies. And St. Johns County is doing just that.
Shock waves from the elementary school shooting in Connecticut are being felt all over the country. Parents are scared. And schools are responding, by beefing up school security.
Deputy Superintendent Tim Forson said, "Throughout this week, they'll see increased presence of law enforcement on the school sites."
Deputies will be at schools to give parents some peace of mind, as school districts all over the state review their security policies. Forson says each St. Johns County school already has emergency plans in place, from lockdown procedures to evacuations.
"Those are very comprehensive," he said. "You're trying to predict or at least plan for any possible type of scenario."
Tomorrow, school administrators will meet with the Sheriff's Office to see if those plans need to be updated or tweaked.
"We take security very seriously," said Forson.
It's impossible to predict a tragedy like the one in Connecticut, but locally, administrators want parents to rest assured they're doing everything in their power to keep your kids safe.
