JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- The story of 17-year-old Jordan Davis has spread from coast to coast. His father Ron Davis and mother Lucia McBath have spoken in front of key leaders, been to Washington D.C, and even been featured in a magazine spread.

Now, Ron is empowering our local community to stand up.

"He has pushed me to do some things I never thought I'd be able to do, and one of the things is try to help some of the children," he said.

Davis addressed the Federation of Families on Friday with a sincere heart. His message was simple: don't be afraid to fight for what's right.

"They have a story and they have a voice and the idea is to try and help them to be an advocate for themselves and their families," said Vicki Waytowich, director of System Care Initiative.

Although Federation of Families is fighting for mental health funding and awareness, Davis says their causes are one and the same.

A loved one is affected, and work still needs to be done to ensure others don't suffer the same pain.

"We're here to make sure they understand, to get your word out you must be specific with what you want to do," he said.

Michael Dunn, the man accused of killing Jordan Davis, is due in court early next month for a pretrial hearing.
