MACCLENNY, Fla. -- The Baker County School District will not be adding armed deputies to the schools who do not have them currently.
Sheriff Joey Dobson and the school superintendent met last week to discuss options. After a follow-up meeting today, the sheriff's office says the two sides decided not to assign deputies to the two elementary schools without them in Baker County.
Instead, the sheriff's office says it will have deputies make the rounds at all schools in the district.
The sheriff called it the "best solution" for the county at this time.
The issue of putting armed deputies in schools surfaced in the wake of the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
