JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A new deal to build a hangar at Cecil Airport could mean up to 400 new aviation-related jobs in Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Aviation Authority signed off on a plan to build a new 150,000 square-foot hangar in an agreement with Flightstar Aircraft Services.

It's a $27 million project. JAA will build the hangar and office facility on 11.5 acres of airport property.

JAA will lease the hangar to Flightstar, which already has two other hangers at the airport.

"Flightstar has been a significant tenant at Cecil Airport, and we are thrilled to see them expand their operations here," said JAA Chairman A.L. Kelly. "The decision to build Hangar 935 is beneficial for both Flightstar and the airport, and will add a needed boost to the Jacksonville economy."

The money to pay for the project is coming from several sources. JAA will contribute $13.5 million. FDOT is adding $13.5 million as part of a state fund match.
