JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Neighbors are surprised to hear a mysterious death like this is happening so close to home.

"Our neighborhood's pretty quiet. You don't expect stuff like this," says neighbor Terry Carlson. "That's crazy. I don't know how it happened," said neighbor Neil Holgerson.

Police are working to uncover clues that will lead them to what happened in this home on Aldington Drive.

According to JSO, officers went to the house last night to check up on a man whose family hadn't heard from him in days. When police arrived, they had to force their way into the home where they found 58-year-old Robert Ford.

"It appears at this time that he's been there approximately a week," said Sgt. Lonnie Mills.  "He's in the advance stages of decomposition."

Foul play is suspected in Ford's death. His son, and a white Ford Ranger are both missing from the home.

"The vehicle's actually registered to the son, who we aren't able to locate at this time. The person who has the vehicle is a person of interest," said Sgt. Mills.

Neighbors say it's a mysterious turn of events, involving a man they knew little about.

"He was kind of a loner. He stayed to himself. I don't know if he had any family. I didn't really see anybody around," said Holgerson.

The truck has the Florida license plate Q72-2WZ and a topper covering the bed.

If you have any information that can help police, call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS. You will remain anonymous and could receive a cash reward of up to $1,0000 if your tip leads to an arrest.
