FLEMING ISLAND Fla.-- Detectives with the Clay County Sheriff's Office say they have found the rest of the bones they were looking for next to the Kohl's shopping center in Fleming Island.

A group of skateboarding teens found a skull in a field steps away from the shopping center Sunday afternoon, and on Monday, cadaver dogs found the rest of the skeleton more than 50 feet away from the skull.

But detectives say their search is far from over; they are still looking for evidence.

"We've had approximately 30 detectives that we've had out here all day doing grid searches and we'll be out here probably at least through tomorrow," said Sgt. Marty Cotchaleovitch with the Clay County Sheriff's Department

Police say the bones appear to belong to an adult, but they're badly decomposed, making them difficult to find out who they could possibly belong to. Detectives say they have yet to find any signs of foul play, but they are still treating their investigation as a homicide.

"There's no immediate signs of outward trauma to the skull," said Sgt. Cotchaleovitch.

Detectives are hoping dental records will help identify the skeleton, and unlock the mystery to a missing person's case.

There are currently no active cases in Clay County, but there are several in the surrounding area.

"There's probably a family out there that has a lot of questions and wondering if it's their loved one that they've been searching for such a long time so hopefully there's some resolve," said Brittany Pianetta of Fleming Island.

Clay County investigators have wrapped up their search for Monday, and plan on returning Tuesday to look for more evidence.
