Millions in taxpayer money will be spent on 2nd inauguration

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- Some taxpayers are upset that the president could spend millions of their money on a party.

Four years ago, taxpayers footed the $115 million bill for the president's inauguration. Some taxpayers say now is not the time to spend that money again. Unemployment is about 8 percent. Hurricane Sandy left billions of dollars in damage. Tax hikes and spending cuts could force the country off the fiscal cliff.

Clay County's Republican chair says the president should scale back. "We have victims of Sandy struggling to get power. Here the president believes he needs a second inauguration. It's appalling," said Leslie Dougher.

The president of the Jacksonville Young Democrats disagrees. "I think we need to have the event," said Joey McKinnon. "I think you'll see it more reserved."

Other presidents made the decision not to have the party. Warren Harding, Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Pierce are just a few. One taxpayer says that's what needs to happen now. "I think he should celebrate, but be more frugal with my money," said Crenshaw.

We did contact the White House to ask if they would scale things back or cancel the event. We are still waiting for an answer. The inauguration is set for January 21st.
