JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Michael Dunn, 45, made his first court appearance Monday afternoon in Brevard County.  He was arrested at his home there Saturday, one day after police say he shot and killed Jordan Davis, 17, here in Jacksonville.

"Our victim was shot a couple times," said JSO Lt. Rob Schoonover.

Police say Dunn and Jordan Davis crossed paths Friday night at the Gate Station on the corner of Southside Boulevard and Baymeadows Road.  Dunn was just visiting Jacksonville with his girlfriend.  "Supposedly his son was getting married that Friday and they attended the wedding and were headed back to their hotel," said Lt. Schoonover.

Police say Dunn parked next to an SUV carrying Jordan and three of his friends.  The teenagers had their music turned up loud.  When Dunn asked them to turn it down, police say Jordan began to argue.

Lt. Schoonover said, "For whatever reason, our suspect produced a weapon and started firing into the vehicle."

They say Dunn fired eight or nine shots into the SUV.  Jordan was the only teenager who was hit.

Lt. Schoonover said, "I don't know if he knew he struck anyone in the vehicle. But the next morning, I guess when they woke up in the hotel and saw the news that someone was killed, that's when they got in their car and fled back to Brevard."

The only thing we've heard from Dunn at this point is that he told police he felt threatened that night.  Details of that perceived threat have not yet been released.  And as of right now, police are still piecing together the facts to see how a fight over loud music ended with murder.

"It was loud.  They admitted that.  But I mean that's not a reason for someone to open fire on them and take action," said Lt. Schoonover.
