JACKSONVILLE Fla.-- A crime scene unit was parked outside A Child's Choice Daycare on Monday afternoon, as DCF continued an investigation into a burned baby incident. Investigators came to collect evidence and take photos.

"We are investigating to see exactly what happened and if anything could have been done to prevent it," said John Harrell, a DCF spokesman.

It's reported that an 11-month-old baby girl was burned by a bottle warmer. DCF says parents and the daycare both waited too long to report the incident.

"If there's any situation where a child gets injured at their facility, they should certainly seek medical attention for the child but they should also call DCF," said Harrell. "They are mandatory reporters for this."

Caregivers gave Action News a peek inside their business, which they say they take pride in. They say something like this could have happened anywhere.

"It didn't mean to happen, it was just an accident," said A Child's Choice caregiver Joyce Herring.

The daycare claims the accident happened when a caregiver was using a bottle warmer to heat the child's bottle. The caregiver claims the child startled her, causing her to drop the heated bottle and burn the baby. They claim the child's parents were notified instantly.

"My boss went to the office immediately and called the grandmother and the mother and they came," said Herring.

The daycare claims parents told them not to call 911 or DCF.
