JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- The presents are opened and the holiday cheer is winding down...but that's not stopping these people. It's showtime at the theater, and hundreds want their slice of the entertainment.

"Kind of were bored today. Nothing else better to do. Nothing else is open...but I think everyone has the same idea as I do right now," Matthew McLean said.

The movie selections vary. We asked around and each person appeared to have a different interest.

"We decided we're going to go see the new Cirque du Soleil one. 3D," Rosemary Maloney said.

"That Quentin Tarantino movie," McLean said.

Les Mis, The Hobbit and Jack Reacher were also popular choices today. Most say the theater gives them a chance to relax as an escape from the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

"We went and had some dinner. Go to the movies. just us two...so there's nothing else for us to do," John Powell said.

This time of year traditionally means big bucks for the box office. In fact, the week leading up to Christmas has been the highest grossing week of the year for movies.

Shannon Maloney says she has no problem adding to that statistic.

"All our family is down south in Florida. It's just me and her. It's nice to go to the movies on Christmas."

Thanksgiving and New Years Day are also traditionally big box office days.
