JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Florida officials from both sides of the political aisle agree election reform is necessary thanks to the fallout from Election 2012.
It was a sight no voter wanted to see. Long lines plagued some of Florida's most important election counties. Voters in Miami-Dade and Broward counties reported waiting in line for more than six hours. Some voted after the presidency was already called.
State and local officials will meet to try and figure out how to prevent that from happening again.
"I think there's things we can do better in the state of Florida," said Duval Co. Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland.
Holland says there are easy fixes to the issues Election 2012 exposed.
His pitch for Secretary of State Kent Detzner isn't to extend early voting days, like many Democratic lawmakers are pushing for, but instead adding more early voting locations. Early voting is only allowed in libraries, election offices and City Hall.
"That needs to be expanded to be allowed in other government buildings," said Holland. "That would have taken a great burden off the people waiting in line for early voting."
According to Holland, Duval County has more early voting sites per capita than Miami-Dade County, which experienced some of the worst voting waits in the state.
Detzner will meet with Holland and a number of other local Supervisors of Elections from Florida in Tallahassee on Wednesday.
