JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It's a big weekend for football fans, but anyone planning on throwing a steak on the grill may be surprised by the price.
You can grill it, fry it, sauté it and bake it. "We eat a lot of ground round," said Al Jones.
"Beef's good, but steaks, I like steaks," said Jerry Garner.
But anyone with beef on their Super Bowl menu will be paying more for their sirloin this year. The price of beef hit a record high in December and analysts say those prices could grow by five to eight percent more.
"Everything is going up. So you got to expect it to go up too," said Garner.
A pound of beef will cost you around five dollars, and shoppers are doing what they can to fit the meat into their budgets. "Just eat less and of course as you get older you eat less anyway so that helps," said Jones.
"Look for the double savings. The buy one get one free deals, and just look at prices," said Garner.
Prices are rising because the drought is have forced the price of feed to go up. There is also a higher demand for beef overseas, leaving less cattle in the country. "The farmers need to make a living too," said Jones.
Despite the rise in prices, Americans ate 57.7 pounds of beef last year.
