ORANGE PARK Fla.-- Friends and family are calling the death of a local father a "freak accident." 22- year old Charlie Howey lost his life all too soon when friends say his best friend accidentally fired a pellet gun into his chest. That friend is not facing any charges right now.
"I don't feel anybody blames him," said Howey's friend and co-worker, Ryan Belloso. "Nobody really can, it's an accident; a bad accident, a tragic accident but an accident none the less and that's something he's got to live with."
Howey was taken off life support over the weekend. Action News has learned that several of his organs have been donated to save other lives.
Now Howey's loved ones are searching for the silver lining in their sadness. Belloso says many have found it in Howey's young son, a child he was just getting to know himself.
"Every opportunity he took he could see his son, he'd do it he was a really good father," said Belloso. "It's going to bring everybody closer together and from what I hear, Charlie's son is going to be able to spend a whole lot more time with his family because they didn't really have much time together before."
Howey's family asks that any donations offered be made to the blood alliance.
