JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The state of Florida will honor the victims of the school shooting in Connecticut on Friday.
Governor Scott is asking Floridians to observe a moment of silence on Friday at 9:30 a.m., in conjunction with the people of Connecticut.
The time is when the shootings began.
When it ended, 20 children were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School along with six teachers.
The gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, then took his own life.
The University of Florida is also taking part. The UF carillon will toll 26 times on Friday in remembrance of the victims in Newtown.
