JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Duval County teacher is being investigated after deputies in Clay County arrested him during a drug sting.
James Richburg teaches seventh grade at James Weldon Johnson College Preparatory Middle School.
"I thought this was going to be a safe environment for my kids and everything," said parent Tonya Griggs.
Parents are downright mortified after learning a teacher at their children's school is facing multiple drug charges.
"Concerned. Concerned for the kids. You're supposed to be teaching your kids to stay away from that and you got teachers doing that kind of stuff," said parent Carla Coffrin.
According to the arrest report, investigators arrived at a house in Middleburg and arrested the homeowner Robert Davis. The report says Davis agreed to work with the Sheriff's office to bring two others to the house: Emilia Hill and Richburg.
"We don't need our kids doing that," said Patricia Doe. "We need them to be getting their education. It's about getting their education."
The report says when investigators approached Richburg's vehicle he refused to cooperate -- at one point even struggled with the deputies "by not placing his hands behind his back and kicking at officers."
When deputies searched the vehicle, they found assorted pills, including oxycodone and lorazepam, plus marijuana and a handgun.
Parents are now questiong what kind of example teachers are setting for their young and impressionable students.
"They're supposed to be doing background checks on everybody and with all these teachers arrested for stuff that's happening outside, that's a bad example for the children," Griggs said.
According to the Duval County Public Schools district, Richburg will be relieved of teaching responsibilities as the situation is investigated.
If he's found guilty, termination will be recommended.
