JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --  One of the largest owners of cable, television and radio is increasing its stake in the Jacksonville Market. WAWS-TV FOX30 and WTEV-TV CBS47 are now part of Cox Media Group after the sale of the stations was finalized Monday.

CMG bought WAWS-TV FOX 30, one of the top-rated FOX affiliates in the United States, and will operate Jacksonville's most-watched television station WTEV-TV CBS 47 in a shared services agreement with Bayshore Television.

This is big news for Jacksonville viewers, who will be getting much, much more.  Cox Media Group has a portfolio of 15 broadcasting TV stations, 86 radio stations, eight daily newspapers and more than a dozen non-daily publications, and more than 100 digital services.

CMG, based out of Atlanta, operates in more than 30 media markets and reaches approximately 52 million Americans weekly.

TELEVISION

 Cox Media Group owns 15 television stations across the country. WSB-TV Channel 2 in Atlanta is its flagship station, and is regarded as one of the strongest and most recognized television stations in the country with 45 hours of local news each week.

The acquisition of WAWS-TV and WTEV-TV gives Cox a greater presence in Florida.  Cox also owns WFTV Channel 9 (ABC) in Orlando.

Cox Media Group also acquired KOKI-TV and KMYT-TV in Tulsa.  WSOC-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina, and WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, have breaking news covered up the east coast.  And west coast stations, KTVU-TV in the Bay Area and KIRO-TV in Seattle, will keep viewers informed of breaking news and weather as it happens.  There are also stations in El Paso (KFOX14), Johnstown-Altoona, Pennsylvania;  Ohio (WHIO-TV in Dayton; WTOV9 in Steubenville);  and Reno, Nevada (KRXI-TV).

The company's 15 broadcast television stations and one local cable channel serve more than 30 million TV viewers.

Cox Media Group has a huge footprint on the radio dial in Jacksonville.

It runs a number of top performing stations such as News Talk Radio WOKV AM/FM.  WOKV is home to Jacksonville Jaguars games and commentators Neal Boortz, Rush Limbaugh, Clark Howard and Sean Hannity.
