JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- It's been the center of controversy for years.

Gateway Mall.

The Supervisor of Elections Office has operations there, and now city leaders want to keep it that way.

"I'm done talking about this. I'm done with all the back and forth between the supervisor and the council and I just want to bring it to resolution," John Crescimbeni said.

Councilman At-Large Crescimbeni just introduced bill 2013-118. That would keep the Supervisor of Elections Office at Gateway through a 10-year lease.

Supervisor Jerry Holland says he only has a few concerns. One: Is it the best deal for taxpayers?

Two:

"Gateway can be a suitable location, but they definitely need to improve the facility and I think they're willing to do that," he said.

Holland is referring to issues the building has had in the past, like a faulty elevator.

Crescimbeni says the city is working on provisions in the lease to make sure that's not repeated. The Gateway agreement will be between the city and the landlord, and so far looks like the most affordable option for taxpayers.

"I i just think we need finality in this. We need to know what we're doing with that office," he said.

City Council must approve the final lease agreement before anything can go forward.
