JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A fancy coach bus has been transporting loads of jurors from EverBank Field down to the new courthouse every Monday since January. It's a trip that never cost the city a single cent. JTA used to provide the service to the city for free in one of their big buses.
But Action News has learned these new buses contracted with Destinations Unlimited are costing the city $1,200 every day they're used.
"That's just our tax money going to waste you know what about other things there's other things they could spend that money on," said Jeannine Hall.
But the city parking director says he doesn't think the buses are a waste of money at all. He says it's the city's cheapest option since JTA stopped providing the buses.
"We're probably spending the least amount of money we can," said parking director Jack Shad.
But what about all the vacant lots and land the city owns downtown? Could they be used for parking? The city says bus contracts are still the cheapest option.
"This bus could end up being the best long term solution," said Shad. "It's very expensive to build garages, it's very expensive to build parking lots."
Destinations Unlimited says they are contracted on a month-to-month basis.
