JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- While most people were setting off fireworks on New Year's Eve, police say, people in a Westside neighborhood were firing off bullets.

Several of which hit Scott Farmer's house on Melissa Court.

"It's a miracle nobody was hurt. They're out here having a good time using my tree for target practice in a neighborhood surrounded by homes," said Scott Farmer.

According to Farmer, he heard the fireworks and gunshots but did not think it was uncommon on a night like New Year's Eve.

He went to bed a little after midnight and it wasn't until the next morning that his roommate noticed a bullet on the floor of his room.

"As he was getting ready to leave to go to work he saw another bullet hole right at the front door," said Farmer.

That bullet went straight through the outside wall and became lodged inside an interior wall in his front entrance.

According to the police report, more than 16 shell casings were found in the road next to Farmer's house.

Nearby cars were also damaged when another bullet ricocheted off one car and hit the SUV parked next to it.

Farmer hopes the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office can use fingerprints on the shell casings to catch the person or people responsible.

But in the meantime, he has this message for whomever fired the bullets.

"Get a membership at the gun club and go shoot properly," said Farmer.

If you have any information that could lead police to an arrest, call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-8477.
